Bark Collar Training

Each bark collar system purchased from Barking 4 Less will have a detailed instruction manual to assist you with the proper training of your dog. We decided to go head and give a training guideline to assist you with the proper training of a bark collar. For a bark collar to be effective, it is imperative that your dog is trained correctly. If you follow our training guide step by step then you will have a trained dog in just a few short weeks.

    Part 1 : INTRODUCTION

During the first two days of using the bark collar make sure the anti-bark mechanism is disabled. This is done so that the dog will not associate the collar is something that is negative. This will also allow the dog to get adjusted to the feeling of the collar around its neck.

    DAY 1

  • The main goal of the first day is to have the dog associate the collar with something that is positive. It is encouraged to use positive reinforcement techniques like giving your dog a treat whenever the collar is introduced.
  • Only keep the collar on the dog for 2 to 4 hours.
  • It is important that the collar is fitted exactly like it will be whenever the anti-bark mechanism is turned on.
  • After the dog wears the collar for the recommended time, it is important that you give the dog a treat.
  • Repeat DAY 1’s process over the course of the day.
  • DAY 2

  • Repeat the same exact process as DAY 1 but instead of 2 to 4 hour intervals use 3 to 6.
  • DAY 3

  • By the third day, the dog should be comfortable enough with the collar to where he can wear it throughout the whole day. If not, repeat DAY 2 as needed.

    Part 2: TRAINING

  • It is recommended that you choose an environment that has the least amount of distractions to start the training.
  • Activate the bark collar’s anti-bark mechanism.
  • It is advised that you closely observe the dog during the first couple days of the collar being activated.
  • Remember, bark collars do not harm dogs. At first the dog will looked confused whenever he receives the correction. But after a few stimulations, he will begin to associate barking to the displeasure of the stimulation. When he makes the association, the excessive barking will discontinue.
